    February 2019 Monthly Meeting

"Have We Hit Rock Bottom?" - The Silver Lining in the Cloud

How the current & future fiscal state of California impacts us & how to manage through it.

Jack Weir is a long-time taxpayer advocate, retired Bell executive and organizational consultant. He has served on three school district bond oversight committees and is a former board member of the California League of Bond Oversight Committees. He has also served as a director of the County Connection transit agency and as a Pleasant Hill City Councilman.

He carries into his Presidency of the Contra Costa Taxpayers Association the same principles that he held throughout his long public service, namely, that:

    • We only need government to provide those services we cannot do for ourselves
    • Government exists to serve us, not vice versa
    • Government, at all levels, must live within its means, just as our families must do
    • Direct and indirect taxes (of all kinds) now constitute the largest segment of working families’ budgets. This is wrong and unsustainable.

Founded in 1937, the Contra Costa County Taxpayers Association leads the way in providing fiscal oversight of local government. It actively resists unwarranted taxes and fees, discriminatory regulations, ill-advised public expenditures and government secrecy, inefficiency and waste. Its mis- sion is to promote good government at an affordable cost. Educating the public about tax issues is another goal. CoCo Tax is Fighting for Good Government at Affordable Cost in Contra Costa!

Check it out www.cocotax.org and join us for a dynamic conversation with the taxpayers’ advocate who has been in the trenches and will give us the scoop!

    March 2019 Monthly Meeting

“What is Driving the Decline in California Public Schools?”

Larry Sand, President, California Teachers Empowerment Network

    Download Event Flyer

Just how educated are we?  According to The Literacy Project, there are currently 45 million functionally illiterate (unable to read above 5th grade level) Americans, half of all adults cannot read a book at an 8th grade level, and, in California, 25% of the state’s 6 million students are unable to perform basic reading skills.  Why so much illiteracy? Who’s to blame? What can be done?

Larry Sand retired from teaching in the New York and Los Angeles public schools in 2009 and is President of The California Teachers Empowerment Network (CTEN) (www.ctenhome.org).  CTEN was formed in 2006 because a wide range of information comes to teachers and parents from entities that have a specific agenda.  Larry Sand’s comments and op-eds have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, Real Clear Politics, The Weekly Standard, Newsweek, Los Angeles Times, and other leading publications. Additionally, he has been an advisor to student and parent advocacy groups, lawyers and education and public policy experts, including being a policy advisor at the Heartland Institute (www.heartland.org).

California public schools have gone from first to some of the worst in the nation.  Come find out why from the expert who witnessed that demise and will inspire us to correct it!

Napa Event - Yolo County GOP

Yolo County Republican Central Committee Presents

    Dinesh D'Souza and Brandon Straka

Dinesh D’Souza is a bestselling author and filmmaker. His films, 2016: Obama’s America and America: Imagine A World Without Her, are respectively the #2 and #6 highest political documentaries of all time. D’Souza’s latest feature-length film, Hillary’s America, is widely credited with contributing to Hillary Clinton’s defeat in 2016, and quickly joined his first two films in the top 10 political documentaries of all time.

D’Souza’s latest film, Death of a Nation, builds on this success and takes on progressive big lies, finally proving once and for all that the real party of fascism and racism is now and has always been the Democratic Party.

Brandon Straka is the leader and founder of #WalkAway Campaign, which has been a huge success and movement to bring awareness to the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party. The Campaign launched in June 2018 with a video entitled, d #WalkAway - Brandon Straka, "Why I Left The Democrat Party".

The campaign's stated goal was to "encourage others to walk away from the "divisive" left, but also take back the narrative from the "liberal" media about what it means to be a conservative in America."The campaign's stated goal was to "encourage others to walk away from the "divisive" left, but also take back the narrative from the "liberal" media about what it means to be a conservative in America."
